APTHHE: AN ANNOYING PROBLEM
Aphthous ulcers are the most common lesions of the oral mucosa and in 80% of cases the first aphtha appears before the age of 30.

The spread of this problem can affect up to 60%* of the population. It is estimated that in a fifth of cases the episodes are frequent and repeated over the years.

PREDISPOSING FACTORS

Nutritional deficiencies:
vitamin B12, folic acid and iron.

Systemic pathologies:
among the most frequent: diabetes, cyclic neutropenia, celiac disease and some intestinal pathologies.

Psychological conditions:
stress, anxiety, depression

Trauma to the mucous membranes
caused by medical maneuvers, accidental bites, scalding foods or drinks or traumatic brushing.

Genetic Familiarity:
canker sores occur more frequently in families whose members suffer from these manifestations.

Allergies and intolerances
allergic syndromes triggered by drugs, intolerance to particular foods or drinks.

The lesions regress spontaneously but it is very important to promote healing and counteract the symptoms which can be annoying and persistent. Spontaneous pain and burning or upon phonation. Swelling and pain in nearby lymph nodes. Increased salivation. Difficulty and pain when chewing with possible loss of appetite. Difficulty and pain during oral hygiene procedures. The diagnosis is based mainly on the clinical appearance and medical history.
